Banana Pudding is one of my favorite desserts. It’s rich, creamy, light and fluffy. I can’t help but smile when I eat it. Here in Texas it’s a staple at any summer time cookout, and any BBQ joint worth their salt has it on their menu. Best of all, it’s an easy dessert that you can whip up at home in no time!
This is a classic banana pudding recipe that’s been in my family for years. It jazzes up instant vanilla pudding with sweetened condensed milk, giving the pudding a deep, rich flavor. I lightened up by folding in an easy homemade whipped cream. Of course, banana pudding isn’t banana pudding without Nilla Wafers and bananas. Add those in and you’ve got yourself a quick and easy dessert that everyone will love.
How to Make Banana Pudding
Alright, enough talk. Let’s get to the good stuff. Here’s how to make my family’s favorite banana pudding:
- Take one 5 oz package of Jell-O Instant Vanilla Pudding and mix it with 1 & 1/2 cups of milk. Stir until it thickens up and set it aside.
- Make your whipped cream. Take 2 cups of heavy whipping cream and add 2 tablespoons of sugar. Mix with a hand mixer until you get stiff peaks. You can also use Cool-Whip if you prefer. My family has always used it in this recipe but my husband is not a fan so I switched things up for him.
- Grab the pudding and stir in 1 can of Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk. Fold in 1/2 of the whipped cream. It will be lumpy at first but keep stirring till it is smooth.
- Layer your dish with Nilla Wafers, then bananas, then pudding. Repeat until you’re out of pudding then top with whipped cream. If you have any left over cookies you can crush those up to decorate the top.
That’s it. Simple, easy and so tasty! I love putting it in mini trifle dishes. They’re so cute! You can also use a 13×9 pan or casserole dish. I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I do!
